European Court of Human Rights registers Georgia’s Future Academy’s application against Russian-style, repressive laws.

Georgia’s Future Academy has lodged an application before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) challenging Ivanishvili’s FARA and other authoritarian legislation adopted by the regime against Georgian civil society organizations. The application also contests the repressive measures taken against GFA based on these laws, including the unlawful monitoring initiated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

The Russian-inspired repressive laws adopted in 2024–2025 are incompatible with democratic principles, as they aim to silence and dismantle Georgian non-governmental organizations. They violate rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights, including the freedoms of association and expression, the right to respect for private life, and the prohibition of discrimination.
